This is my blog about the different types of books I read, mainly mystery, myths, and magic, and what I thought of them. I hope you like them, too.

Sherlock Holmes The Movie

Last night I went to see the new movie Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. It was absolutely AMAZING!! In this movie you start off about right where you left off. Watson is getting Married and Holmes is ecstatic about it (she typed sarcastically). Holmes of course is still tangled into finding the employer of Irene Adler (played by Rachel McAdams) and drags Watson into it.  I loved the entire movie but I especially loved the twists that accured throughout the movie. While this was an incredible movie I didn't like the way they did the camera in this. In parts (especially the forest scene) it almost looked like they were standing still but the back drop was moving. I didn't mind when they would slow it down so Holmes could plan out his attack but they would also use slow motion in some of the most action packed parts. It also got a little corny at parts but that's not necessarily a bad thing. With the best heroes, deathly twists, and pigeon feeding bad guys, I think this is the best Sherlock Holmes movie yet!

THE FIRE!

Sorry it's been so long! I finally finished The Fire and it was incredible!!!!! I thought the that the last two books were amazing but this was even better! I could hardly put it down! As always James Patterson (and Jill Dembowski) kept me holding my breath with each word. As I said with the others the book can get kind of depressing, but believe me it's worth it! I wouldn't recommend this to anyone under  middle school because this book got pretty graphic, especially when it comes to the blood plague. In this book Whit and Wisty are still on the run. The New Order has now taken over the world, but The One wont stop there. It's time to end it, but will Wisty be able to do it? This book has all the best parts from the other books like love, action, and of course MAGIC! With new characters, powers, and romances this book is defiantly my favorite out of all three.
I just wanted to let everyone know that there WILL be a Witch and Wizard movie! I don't know pretty much any info yet but when I find out you'll be the first to know! (It'll be posted on my page called "MOVIES!!")
That's all for now, you can check my reading list to see whats coming up next.

I CAN NOT WAIT!!! I don't know about you guys but thinking back to the first 2 books I think The Fire is an appropriated name.  The other book that is coming out is the 2nd book to the 2nd series of The 39 Clues series, Cahills vs Vespers. The King's Ransom (the 2nd book) by Jude Watson will come out Tuesday 11/6. Breaking Dawn

WOW! That pretty much somes up this movie! I thought the movie was incredible and WAY better than I thought it was going to be. Like I said in my last post about this movie, I didn't read the book but from what I heard from the people who did read it was that is was pretty accurate. Although I will say that I think they turned an incredible love story into something a kind of gruesome. This movie changed A LOT of people's minds about what team there on. Although Team Jacob is still the most popular, a lot of people have transferred to TEAM SETH!  I can't wait to see the next one which, by the way, will not be rated R. I don't know this for an absolute fact but honestly it wouldn't make sense because most of the viewers are under 18. Plus, the second part of the book is less gory than the first. The release date for PART 2  will be 11/16/12, which is an entire year later, but I guess people can only have so much twilight in one year.

When I went to go see Breaking Dawn I saw SEVERAL posters for The Hunger Games movie coming out on 3/23/12. From what I've heard the movie is going to be amazing because the author is going to be co-directing the movie! I honestly can NOT wait to see it and have already marked my calender. I'm interested to how they are going to portray District 12 and The Capitol.
What do you think the movie will be like?
I will post all of the links to the trailers and more information on my new page "Movies"

Dreaming Anastasia

Dreaming Anastasia: "A Novel of Love, Magic, and the Power of Dreams." I love real world mysteries, and although the question of Anastasia's fate was recently answered, as soon as I saw the title of this book I HAD to read it. This book is kind of hard to describe; it's a romantic, twisted, magical, fairytale...thingy. It's about a girl, Anne, who finds out that she has magic powers. She and Ethan (a young looking, old guy) have to save Anastasia from the witch Baba Yaga. Joy Preble (the author) did an amazing job bringing the mystery of Anastasia to life in a way no one (not even Disney) has done before. I will admit that I didn't read some of the things that Anastasia "wrote" because I'm not great with cursive but after a few google searches and help from my mom, (who eventually made me "re-learn" cursive) I read most of it. The book has lovable characters, an exciting plot, and enough twists to make you unable to put it down.

Haunted: Very rarely will the sequel be better than the first book, but in this case it definitely is. I couldn't put it down!  This book takes place a little after the ending of the first book. I can't really explain what the plot was about without giving things away that occurred in the first book, but I think Cynthia Leithich Smith (NY Times best selling author) pretty much summed it up as "Spooky Sassy, Sinister, and Sexy!" Although at parts it was a bit far fetched (even for a fantasy,) I really enjoyed the romantic twists that occurred throughout the story. Speaking of romantic twists, I will  say that this book was a little more adult then I usually read so I wouldn't read this book if you are in any grade under 9th grade. I really enjoyed the books and I do plan on reading the third book. The problem is I think there is going to be a third book but I can't find anything about it, like the title, or the release date. If anyone knows anything about the third book then post it in the comments.
That's all for now Please Comment

The Hunger Games

After two days of nearly non-stop reading, I have finished The Hunger Games. Now, I want to start off saying that this is one of the BEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN. This being said, it was not the easiest read in my opinion. The book had all the aspects of an amazing book; I laughed, I cried. But honestly it wasn't my type of book. It had a great meaning but it was a little darker than the books I prefer to read. I'm obviously going to keep reading because once you start The Hunger Games you can't stop. This incredible story was written by Suzanne Collins, and will be in theaters March 23, 2012. While this isn't my favorite book, I'm the only one in America! I haven't seen so much hype about a book since Harry Potter. I suggest no one under middle school read this book, because at parts it could be gory. There are three books in the incredible trilogy The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The first book is about Katnis, a girl who gets selected to compete in the Hunger Games. Talk about fight to the finish, the only way to leave the game is to be the last one still alive. I know this sounds a little cruel, I definitely recommend it and "May the odds ever be in you favor!"
That's all for now please comment! : )

Her is the extended trailer for the movie

THE SEA OF MONSTERS THE MOVIE!!

As you all know, I am PERCY JACKSONS # 1 fan! Being this, I do my best to keep up with whats going on with the movies. I am (sort of) happy to announce that the Second movie, The Sea of Monsters has a release date! I was disappointed with the first movie because they got some things (like the plot) wrong.  I'm sure though, that the second movie will be more accurate, because the more movies they make the less they can stray away from some of the details (like Thalia's tree) that end up as big parts in the plot later in the series. From what google says, they have been holding auditions for Rachel Elizabet Dare, which leads me to believe they will not stop at the second movie. So far that's all I know, but I will keep updating.
Here is the link for the RELEASE DATE.
Comment on what you thought of the first movie! :)

Which and Wizard

I was looking through my pasts posts and realized that I haven't reviewed one of my favorite series! All of you are aware that the title of my blog is Mystery, Myths, & Magic. The Witch & Wizard series is the reason why I have the "Magic" in the title. I read this book and 6th grade when I saw a commercial for it, and being an 11-year-old girl I thought any book that had a commercial of its own must be a REALLY good book. Luckily I was right! This incredible story by James Patterson has what I thought was the best theme ever:  that adults can be wrong. When I learned more about themes in school, I looked back and realized that this might not be the exact detail that the author meant for the theme. Although this book was a little more dark then most of the stories I read, I loved the plot! In this story Whit and Wisty (brother and sister) are thrown in jail for being a Witch and a Wizard (this is just a guess but I think that is how he got the title). Now, I will say that it isn't about them rotting in prison the entire time, but it was interesting even when they were because...well you will have to read the book to find out. I read this book in 6th grade but I wouldn't suggest anyone lower then 5th grade to read this book. I LOVED the story line of this because you could see it was based onWorld War II. Now, I don't mean that it takes place in the 1940's, or the Nazis or Hitler were in it, but the characters resembled it. For example THE ONE (the guy in charge of the new order) is like Hitler, and THE NEW ORDER is like the Nazis.

James Patterson is an amazing author, but after I finished the first book I had to wait a year to read the next book, witch (bad pun sorry) drove me insane because, I think we can all agree, James Patterson is the king of cliff hangers. The second book, The Gift, was just as amazing the first, if not better. It had even more twists that left me staring at the page in an enjoyable disbelief. I spent hours in my room reading the book because I just couldn't put it down! After finishing The Gift I was once again annoyed with James Patterson, because the ending was both an enormous cliff hanger, and an even bigger twist. The Next book is called The Fire, and it comes out 12/5/11.
Here is the trailers for the books (and THE GIFT's preview said something about a movie)
Witch &Wizard
The Gift
The books a lot better than the trailers
That's all for now KEEP READING.

Mystery,Myths, and Movies!

I'm sorry to say that tonight, I betrayed all nerd kind. I went to see "The Three Musketeers"  movie and sadly, no, I have not read the book. In my defence me and my friends only went to see LOGAN LERMAM (the actor who played PERCY JACKSON). Now, I don't usually review movies but this time I will make the exception. Looking at one of the first advertisements for it, I thought it looked stupid, purely because The Three Musketeers, weren't in it! But, the movie was full action, adventure, romance, and of course LOGAN LERMAN!!(and other actors like Orlando Bloom but I didn't really notice them) I suggest not seeing it in 3D. That's what I saw it in, and honestly I would have preferred the 2D because it made it VERY obvious that it was a green screen and not the top of a real building. This movie had me so far off the edge of my seat that I was standing and I am counting down the days until the sequel! (if there is one)

Since we are talking about movies, I should make another confession. I have not read the TWILIGHT SAGA, but I am absolutely OBSESSED (not as much as Percy Jackson of course) with the movies!! I , like 99% of the teenage girls around the country, am counting dawn the days to PART ONE of BREAKING DAWN!!!!!!!! I'm team Edward, of course, and to all those on the team with me, YOU ROCK!! But for those of you who are not, I can understand why, I mean it is TAYLOR LAUTNER.

So please post in the comments section  what you thought of the books/movies, or what team you're on.

The Tell-Tale Heart

Today I'm reviewing something a little different then I do most of the time. First, I did not read this story on my own, because we read it in class. Second, it is a short story; but not just any short story, this story was written by none other then the "Father of horror stories" himself Edgar Allan Poe. Normally I do not enjoy horror stories but The Tell-Tale Heart is the exception. Now although this story gave me chills...for the entire day, it was an interestingly thrilling story. Even though I wouldn't say that this was a happy story, it was oddly intriguing and has a curious way of  implying the theme of guilt. I also watched this video which was creepy and twisted but did give a good picture for the story. I also began to read another one of his writings called The Black Cat and found it interesting that he specifically discussed the same detail that the main character in each story was "Not insane." The characters in his stories are interesting, but the most interesting character would be himself. He had a tragic life which might have inspired his twisted stories. Although he had drinking/drug problems, the most interesting part of this twisted geniuses story is the mysterious visitor with a silver tipped cane he gets once a year to his grave. For "rapping" it all up it was a story that I surprisingly enjoyed but I would not suggest anyone under 8th grade to read this story (or watch the video above) because this story follows his famous 3 themes of (as answers.com said) "untimely death, insanity, and horrific gore."
For now...there's "nothing more." Please Comment!

The Son Of Neptune

Hello all Demons, demigods, and mortals! I recently read, my new favorite book in the whole world,The Son of Neptune! Now I thought nothing could beat The Lightning Thief, but I was extremely happy to realize I was wrong. This book left me at the edge of my seat with every thrilling word! Rick Riordan made the sequel of The Heroes of Olympus series more amazing than any of his other stories. While a few of his other books ended up being a tiny bit predictable, this one tied in things from the second book of the first series (Percy Jackson and The Olympians) that I, at least, forgot had been left un-answered. Practically half of my school has read, or is going to read this book. Never before I have I seen so many middle school kids spend lunch discussing Roman vs Greek gods! With an extraordinary plot and an ending that left me saying "OH MY GODS!" I  fell in love with this modern day myth and was unable to put it down. I would defiantly recommend this to any child, adult, or god!

Thanks for reading! Please comment and tell me how you liked the book! : )

Sphinx's Princess

Hiya everyone! I know I know it's been forever but to make it up to you I have a great book to review! It's called SPHINX'S PRINCESS.  It is about a girl who is promised to marry a man that she hates. This story takes place in ancient Egypt. As soon as you begin reading you fall in love with the unique strong willed characters, and the amazing plot of a girl who wants to do more than what women back then were allowed to do. This amazing story by Esther M. Friesner (CLICK HERE to bye the book on Amazon) will leave you on the edge of your seat because just when you think the story is getting good they get even better! Now I don't know if this is a series or not because on Amazon it said "(Princesses of myth)" next to the title but not on the book. What I do know, that there is a sequel to this book called Sphinx's Queen. I haven't read this book yet only because it hasn't yet arrived to my public library. I would recommend this book for anyone 5th grade and up (depending on the reader). Ms. Friesner has a ton of other books as well, you can check them out at her WEBSITE.
Thanks for reading please comment!

The Wizard the Witch, and Two Girls From Jersey

Hi everyone, sorry it's been so long! Today I'm reviewing a book called The Wizard, the Witch, and Two Girls From Jersey. As awesome a title as that is, I actually came across this fairytale-with-a-twist by accident. This fantasy, by Lisa Papademetriou, is about two girls (guess where they're from) who get sucked into a book and are mistaken as the main character. I really enjoyed this book, and not only because of the loveable dragons, wise wizards (alliteration not intended) and, of course, Jersey girls, but also because of the clever characters and the amazing plot! Although I read this book in 7th grade, I think that it is good for anyone 6th grade and up. The only thing I personally didn't like about the story was the ending. It didn't have a bad ending, just not what I expected. This being said, it was definitely worth the read and I would really like to hear how you guys liked the ending! This book was published in 2006, but Lisa Papademetriou recently came out with a book called Siren's Storm. I haven’t read this book yet, but it looks really good, so anyone who has read it, tell me how you liked it!
Here's the author's website:  Lisa Papademetriou

That’s all for now. Keep reading!

The Mediator series

Hi everyone! In 7th grade my friend recommended a series to me called The Mediator. This is a hard series to review. I did enjoy the story, but the sixth book had some serious holes in the plot. The author, Meg Cabot, used the phrase "I mean" (for example "I enjoyed them, the cookies, I mean") way too much. The Mediator series is about a girl who is able to see ghosts and has to help them move on to the next life. I loved the story in itself, but the way it was written was not very good. Although I read this in 7th grade there were a few "adult" parts that even I skipped over. Nothing actually happened  except "passionate" kissing but things were mentioned in detail. Although this only happened a few times per book, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone younger to seventh grade (depending on the person). So, although, this wasn't my favorite series, it was worth the read.

Rick Riordan

Hi everyone! Today I'm going to review 2 series, both by my favorite author Rick Riordan. The first series is my favorite series ever, PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS [Percy jackson Oficial website  (I think)]! When I read these books in fifth grade, I loved the books so much I never stopped reading until I finished! The story brings to life Greek mythology but in modern time! Every word will leave you on the edge of your seat! Every character has a unique personality that you really get to know through the series. The best part is that every book is better than the last! The books are written from the point of view of Percy, and I loved this because everything is described as if a teenage boy was telling it. I loved the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series, and when Rick Riordan came out with a spin-off series called Heroes of Olympus (Heroes of Olympus website) I was ecstatic! In this series it is from the point of view of three new characters! Although they still have the old characters as well, I enjoyed these characters just as much. In this series Jason wakes up on a bus with Piper, and Leo but he has no memory. Although Piper and Leo think they've been friends with him all year, they soon learn that they don't really know who he is. I loved the book and I am counting down the days for the second book to come out on 10/4.  Both of these series are intermediate school level reading but I also know a lot of adults who really enjoyed these series! I absolutely love Percy Jackson and I am Rick Riordan's #1 fan!!!!

The View From the Cherry Tree.

There is nothing more annoying then reading a mystery book, and solving the mystery in the first few chapters! Well, not in Willow Davis Roberts' book called THE VIEW FROM THE CHERRY TREE. This book was one of the only school required readings that I actually enjoyed! Even my class enjoyed it! In this book you will think you have this murder mystery solved but then you find another clue that points you in the other direction. This would be a great book for a 10-12 year old. This book is innocent enough to be school appropriate, but had enough action for it to be interesting to every kid in the class! The book is about a boy (Rob) who witnesses a murder everyone thinks is an accident. As he tries to discover who the murderer is, he realizes the murderer's next victim might be him! This book is funny, clever, and you'll be at the edge of your seat every second!

The 39 clues

Hi people! About a year ago I started reading a series called THE 39 CLUES! I loved the series as soon as I started it. These books are a continuous mystery. It also allows you to continue the mystery after each book with the cards that come with it, or you could go online at http://www.the39clues.com/. I liked this book because it's a perfect combination of mystery, adventure, and history! In each book they travel to a different place in hunt for 39 clues, a family secret that has been lost for centuries, while being chased by their competitive relatives. Unlike most series, each book is written by a different author (with the exception of a few) which was an easy way to try out new authors. The first 10 books are about Amy and Dan searching for the clues, but recently book 11 came out and is about another family wanting the clues! Although the 11th book was slow in the beginning, I am really looking forward to the 12th book coming out on 8/30/11! This series is a great story, but were an easy read for me. My guess is that these books would be best for 3rd-6th graders.  So they might be an easy read but I think they can be good for all ages.

In the beginning...

This is the first post of my new blog!  I hope you guys like it.  In this blog, I'll be reviewing books that I've read and sharing my love of reading.  My all-time favorite series is the Percy Jackson series and I cannot wait until the next book of the Heroes of Olympus series comes out on October 4th!  Don't forget that the next in the 39 Clues series comes out on August 30th.  Keep reading...
